Monmouth’s historic downtown square is anchored by the Warren County Courthouse, a Richardsonian Romanesque landmark built of red sandstone in 1894–95 to designs by architect Oliver W. Marble. It is the fourth courthouse to stand in Monmouth since 1831.

The square itself was rebuilt in 2024–25 with new sidewalks, planted medians, pedestrian lamps, and rain gardens, while keeping its circular layout. Brick storefronts and local shops ring it on all sides. Spend an afternoon browsing local businesses, grabbing a coffee, and taking in the architecture.
