Built in 1865 as the girlhood home of Mary Moore Stewart, this Victorian house stands on the edge of the Monmouth College campus. On October 13, 1870, Stewart and five classmates — Anna Elizabeth Willits, Mary Louise Bennett, Martha Louisa Stevenson, Susan Burley Walker, and Hannah Jeannette Boyd — founded Kappa Kappa Gamma here; the sorority’s constitution was written and its charter signed inside the house. It now operates as a museum at 1015 E. Euclid Ave., open Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., for walk-in tours and by appointment (call (309) 734-5154 ahead to confirm). Suggested donation: $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, free for children under five.
